TOUCHDOWN!

Evan's first debut as a half back/safety was a success! The fourth grade game was played on Saturday morning. And the weather was perfect. The coaches and players have practiced hard and it showed during the game. The final score was 20-6. Evan played both offense and defense. He looked great! He ran the ball a few times up the middle to be stopped by the line not getting a hole opened up to get through, and made a tackle himself. Also with the help of another player, they together made five tackles. Then on Sunday, Evan dressed for the JV game(which are fifth graders). If you show signs of hustle and good attitude throughout the week, you are asked to dress the JV game for that week. And he was asked! They also won 35-0. He played for a few plays.

Breaking News...School

Makaleigh's day starts at 5:15 in the morning. And finally ends around 9:30. School, Volleyball and her Studies are keeping her pretty busy! Wednesday she came home from school talking in French. Je m'appelle Marie(said like 'jim mpell'...I myself call Makaleigh. No, Marie isn't Makaleigh in French. The teacher had names to choose from and Marie was the closest to her name. But the teacher did notice that her last name is French and actually pronounced it correctly. Wow! I think that is the FIRST EVER!!! And she got her first demirit for Math class, due to not having her book covered with a brown paper bag. We had bought stretchy fabric book covers, but the teacher is saying that it doesn't protect the books. Crazy!
Speaking crazy... Makaleigh and 3 other girls had stayed after school due to a volleyball game on Thursday last week. The girls were asked to leave the school premises until the game had started. Now mind you, all last week they had stayed after school due to games. The difference was away games and home games. This was ther first home game. So, they were walking down the block together in the church parking lot and the police officer (which all the kids know him by name due to his student involvement and DARE). He is concerned, asked them what they are doing.
Girls: We have a game and just waiting to go back to the school, because we aren't allow on the school grounds.
Ofcer: Why wouldn't you be allowed at the school, is the game for the school or the rec center?
Girls: No, for the school.
Ofcer: Well, take this(reaching into his wallet and giving the girls a 10 dollar bill) and go get icecream, I'll feel safer with you girls there. I'll be down to get the change in a bit. Stay there until the game and I'll peek in on you during the game. Good Luck tonight!
What?!?! Why aren't the kids allowed to stay? One minute they are and the next they aren't. I won't have said anything if it was just one student, but 6 students had actually stayed. The 2 others, once they were asked to leave walked home, but the plan was to stay. That is half the the team! Parents work, gas prices, and this school is not a city school. I just keep shaking my head.
Then today, I had picked up Noah after school to find a mad dash of kids in front of the school. But my concern is, the parents parking in the NO PARKING DURING SCHOOL HOURS BETWEEN 7-4(2 spots), and the handicap parking(2 spots). There is a cross walk with the aid of the Gym teacher inbetween the spots. Also a huge parking lot right across the school that leads to/from the cross walk. Park there and Walk acrossthe street! So, each day, you have parents fighting for those 4 spots for one reason or another. And the police officer driving pass this happening without saying anything! The more I thought about it, the more I am concerned about the safety of the kids, or my kids. I said something to an authority at the school, and his reply was "I'll say something to ____ (naming the officer by name)." Which then I explained to him, the officer had drove pass without saying anything and all 4 spot were full. And my only concern is the kids, I should have said something last year, but I'm not going to let this keep going on. Something is going to happen...and the school community will then do something. But by then it could be to late. We both agreed and hopefully it will be taking take of! I'll keep you posted...
